Saved on dragonback, she witnesses a seahold boy at a heart warming dragon hatching, and meets the kindly people at Benden Weyr not the least of whom is master harper Robinton himself. Alone, she encounters newly hatched fire lizards who learn to sing with her, and the horrors of a sizzling threadfall. She receives harsh and unfair punishment and runs away to live homeless. Menolly is a talented musician, but in her seahold world girls do not become Harpers, and boys become fishermen not extraordinary dragonriders!
